The Chadron Police Department would like to advise everyone to be cautious about locking up vehicles after a recent string of thefts in the Chadron area. On Sunday, the Department responded to three calls of stolen bicycles, six calls of thefts from within vehicles, and one call of a stolen motor vehicle.
The Department believes these incidents to be related, and all occurred during the evening hours of March 19, 2011. These crimes are being actively investigated, and other jurisdictions are cooperating in an attempt to locate stolen items, which include electronics, money and purses.
A press release from the Chadron PD advises people never to leave keys to motor vehicles in that vehicle, and to lock vehicles even if parked in the owner’s driveway. It is also recommended to conceal electronics kept within the vehicle so they are out of sight, and, if possible, take them with when the vehicle is left unattended.
Anyone noticing suspicious activity is encouraged to report that to the Department as soon as possible. Anyone with information regarding the crimes can also call the PD at 432-0510, or Crimestoppers at 432-0519.
