On July 27, 2009 Officers of the Chadron Police Department responded to a burglary at the baseball fields located at 410 North Main Street in Chadron, Nebraska. At some time between July 20, 2009 and July 27, 2009, an unknown subject or subjects took an unspecified amount of candy and other consumable goods from the concession stands at the baseball fields. The Chadron Police Department is requesting assistance solving a criminal mischief that occurred over the weekend of May 9 and 10 2009. Sometime over the weekend an unknown number of individuals entered a fenced in area on the 100 block of North Main Street. Approximately 3 dozen vehicles and 1 dozen motorcycles sustained some damage or total damage to their windshields, windows, headlights and taillights. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crimestoppers at 308-432-0519. Individuals calling Crimestoppers can remain anonymous. Shortly before 10 p.m. last night (Monday), Chadron Police Department officers responded to the 500 block of Chadron Avenue, after receiving a call from a person stating that somebody had just attempted to rob him.
According to Chadron Police Lt. Rick Hickstein, the person said they were approached by an armed male suspect who demanded property. When the victim showed they did not have anything to give, the suspect left on foot.
A perimeter was established by the Chadron Police Department and a K-9 unit was brought in from Sheridan County to assist with the search; as well as, officers from the Nebraska State Patrol, the Dawes County Sheriff’s Office, and the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office.
A search ensued, but the suspect was not found.
Lt. Hickstein said, the suspect is described as a five-foot-six to five-foot-nine inch tall white male in his mid to upper teens with a tall, slender build. He was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt; baseball hat; and loose, baggy blue jeans.
No one was injured in the attempted robbery and the investigation continues.

Sometime between the night of Friday April 10, 2009 and Saturday April 11, 2009 unknown person(s) damaged the main glass door entrance to the Chadron Municipal Swimming Pool building. If anyone has any information which may lead to the arrest and conviction of those involved you may be eligible for a reward. HAY SPRINGS (NE) - Northwest Rural Public Power District and Tri-State G & T are offering a $10,000 Reward to anyone who furnishes evidence sufficient for the arrest and conviction of the person or persons guilty of the vandalism & theft at the Hay Springs Sub-Station.This act of vandalism is believed to have taken place sometime during the week of June 22, 2008. If anyone has any information regarding this willful act of vandalism and theft at the Northwest Rural Public Power District - Hay Springs Sub-Station, please contact the Sheridan County sheriff’s office - 308-327-2161. Vandalism also poses a serious safety threat.
Les Tlustos, director of consumer services for Northwest Rural, said, “Sub-station high voltage equipment can cause injury or even death. Electricity is dangerous and only those with proper training should work on or near it.”
Tlustos added that in addition to the potential harm to vandals and employees, customers of the district can also be put at risk.

Sometime between 5pm and 7pm on Friday 4/18/08, persons unknown broke into the re-cycle machine in the City Parking lot in the 200 blk of Chadron Ave., Chadron, NE. The “Golden Goat” aluminum re-cycle machine had an access door pried open and cash ($30.00 to $50.00) was taken. The cost to repair the machine is at least $500.00. Sometime between Wednesday April 2nd and Friday April 4, 2008 three or more persons entered a rural private property South East of Crawford, Dawes County, Nebraska. East of the Crow Butte Uranium Mine, said persons entered a vacant house and several outbuildings that are close together on the same property. Taken was a large number of items of an antique nature. Again - between Wednesday April 16 and Thursday April 17, 2008 unknown person(s) entered the same said property by cutting a gate padlock and used force to enter the house. More antiques or items of an antique nature and some miscellaneous hand tools, and numerous other items were taken. On this occasion, thieves also went to the complainants established residence located about 1/4 mile from the vacant house and county road and entered the garage. A partial list of items can be viewed via the link below. Another property South of this location was broken into but nothing was taken as there was nothing there to steal.
